Open Mics
Open Mics
Open mics are the best places for comedians to try out new material and people intersted in trying their hand at comedy. Here's a list of places that hold open mics. If you have a place that you hold an open mic, send us your info. We'll get you up here. It's totally FREE!
Places that hold open mics, usually have a set of guidelines to follow. First, be on time! That's important. If you can, try to bring a friend or two. This helps everyone out. You get someone to laugh at your jokes, and the club has another paying customer. Everyone's happy. Call the club to find out when they hold the open mics, then ask if you have to reserve a spot. Usually, you show up early, and put your name on the list. The list will have several names on it. It's up to the emcee to decide when you go on. Don't ask for the first or second spot. If that's where he wants to put you or you got there early enough to sign up first, great. You will have UP to 5- 10 minutes to perform. You can only do 2 minutes if you want, just don't go over what the emcee tells you. You usually get a warning light, telling you that you have to wrap it up because there's about a minute left to go. This might just be a flashlight. Don't worry, you'll know. DO NOT TALK while the other comics are up or HECKLE. They're giving you their insides up there. The most curtious thing you could do is just laugh. Whether he's funny or not. Don't hold back laughter because you want people to laugh harder at your jokes. We all need the support of one another. Please be original. Write your own jokes. There's not many people who continue to move on by repeating another comic's jokes. You'll get called on it. One thing that a comic will know is another comic's jokes. We all love comedy, so we're gonna know if you try to steal material. Comics hate that. You would too if someone was doing your jokes just before you did. These are just the basics. Each place will vary. Call the club and get as much info as you can, before you arrive. Yes, you can take notes up there to help you remember your material. I wish you all the best.
